“Dad, You’ve Got Dementia:” Book Review.

Recently, I picked up a book to review called, “Dad, You’ve Got Dementia: Conversations With My Father.” written by Kristen Phillips, published by The Cuba Press.

Usually I would do a review like this on my Youtube channel, (https://www.youtube.com/@HeHatesNovels1285) and I still might talk about this eventually over there along side some other new books, but I thought I’d do a written review, focusing just on it.

This book is a non fiction piece of writing about the author’s experience with her father getting dementia, and how that effected her father, herself, and the people around them. It takes real conversations they had together, and puts it in the style of a story, really putting you in their shoes and making it feel so real, like it’s happening right in front of you.

This book works in a very unique, intriguing show-not-tell way, until the end where it ties it all together with the origin story of how the finished project came to life and how it was published.

I couldn’t recommend this book enough because of how intresting and important it is. It is an extremely well written short piece that is super enjoyable to read, it never drags or gets boring. It’s emotional and works so well, doing exactly what it’s trying to do and executing it greatly. The conversations slowly reveal the dynamic that the whole book is about, and perfectly captures the journey of trying to keep such an important relationship alive and work around the obstacles.

I am super glad I read this book, it’s a great read with an even better message, you can get it from a bookstore or order it online, you should totally pick it up.
